OOTD Public Speaking Engagement
OOTD Public Speaking Engagement
Apparently public speaking is one of the most common fears of Americans, which is something I love, because now my practiced ability of not saying "um" or "uh" and speaking loudly is celebrated as some kind of major talent. So, heres what I wore for a recent public speaking engagement.

Shirt: Thrifted
Skirt: Calvin Klien for Macys
Shoes: Payless
Handbag: Walmart
Watch, belt: Target
Pearls: Gift
Do you all like public speaking?

OOTD Bottle Green
OOTD Bottle Green

Here Im wearing it with a black shawl (vintage), black heeled Mary Janes (thrifted), gold jewelry (assorted), and a black camisole underneath. For work I will probably go for a higher camisole so the entire ensemble is less cleavage-heavy and a thick cuff bracelet to cover my wrist tattoo, but for a test run I thought this suited perfectly.

From behind, a few of the shawl (and my uneven hair.)

Close up of the draping at the neckline.
Stay tuned for more corporate OOTDs as I begin assembling my wardrobe.

OOTD and Kates Clothing Review
OOTD and Kates Clothing Review
Its too hot for this outfit and Im too Goth to care.

Blouse: Thrifted
Skirt: Kates Clothing
Jewelry: Various
This outfit was planned around this lovely bow-fronted skirt that was sent to me by the lovely folk over at Kates Clothing for an honest review. The skirt is manufactured by Chic Star and Ive owned other Chic Star pieces in the past but this was my first experience with this particular website. Kates Clothing are a UK-based alternative clothing website that host a whole bunch of brands offering most styles of gothic clothing and other alternative looks in different styles. International shipping to here in the US was super quick, which I really appreciated.
The skirt is a fairly simple black pencil skirt with notched top and a decorative flat bow. It rises up under the bust and falls down below the knee (on me, anyway, at 57".) Theres no boning or structure in the top of the skirt but I was surprised at how well it stood up without unfortunate folding or creasing. The fabric is on the thin side, not enough that its sheer but if youre wearing bulkier underwear you might end up with a visible panty line, so Spanx or skimpy underwear might be advisable.
The skirt is closed at the side with a zipper. In the past Ive had issues with Chicstar zippers breaking easily but this one seems sturdier and has stood up to a fair bit of wiggling. The skirt runs from a UK8 (XS) to a UK30 (8XL) so theres a size for everyone, which is always really nice and something most goth clothing brands dont cater to.
Style-wise I think this skirt is really versatile. Theres nothing about it that screams GOTHIC but thats perfect if youre wanting something that can be worn as part of a corporate Goth outfit or around less-accepting family members. It also lends itself to a retro/vintage pin-up look quite well, so theres a lot you can do with this skirt.

I dont have any real complaints about this skirt, its a very versatile piece that Ill certainly be wearing a lot and if youre into this kind of feminine pin-up or corp-goth style Id definitely consider it. The one thing I will say is that it is fairly long and if youre shorter than 56" or so youll probably find yourself with the skirt hitting your mid-calf, which isnt really the intended look. So, this one might be for my taller folk.

OOTD Making 2007 Me Proud
OOTD Making 2007 Me Proud
Followers of my Tumblr will have already seen this outfit but I couldnt resist sharing it here. Spurned on by the middle-school alternative Spotify playlist I mentioned last week, Ive been enjoying a bit of a nostalgia trip. This outfit was inspired by something I would have absolutely loved around 2007 when I was around twelve years old.

I feel like the type of girl whod appear in a pop punk music video. Its not a bad look, certainly a nice change of pace from the corp-goth inspired looks Ive been favoring recently.

Details:
Corset: Amazon; Skirt; Fanplusfriend, T-shirt: Target; Shawl: Vintage; Shoes: Payless, Fishnets, Jewelry: Various.

How are you all doing this week?

OOTD Fancy Hats
OOTD Fancy Hats
What is this hat? I thought it was a pillbox style hat, but when my younger brother saw these pictures he screeched "Beret!" Admittedly, he is a teenager so he might have no idea, but I figured Id get your opinions.

Anyway, onto the outfit details:
Dress - Forever21
Hat, shoes, shawl - Thrifted
Belt - Torrid
Necklace - DIY

So this belt is actually worn backwards, the front has some cool buckling but on this outfit I thought the front was plenty interesting enough with the sweetheart/mesh detailing, so I turned the belt around.

The necklace, which I didnt get a good picture of, is an Alchemy Gothic earring that I turned into a necklace.

So, what would you call this hat? And are you all hat people?

OOTD Casual Office Vibes
OOTD Casual Office Vibes
The thing about being a goth who works in a business formal environment is that wearing all black is standard operating procedure, so the gothness of it all is lost on my equally black-clad coworkers. Id have an easier time looking rebellious by wearing salmon pink or putting flowers in my braid. Still, my favorite, basic outfit for corporate life is this one. Simple and classic for work, but when I get off I can add any number of black skully accessories to make up my lost Goth points.

Top (actually a mini dress which I wear as a top): Forever 21
Skirt: Macys
Shoes, camisole: Thrifted

I promise Im not trying to scowl in these pictures, but it was so, so sunny.

What is your go-to outfit? Im talking the kind of thing you would be drawn in if you were one of those cartoon characters who only wear one outfit.

OOTD Suited Up
OOTD Suited Up
Remember way back when when I promised Id look into buying more vintage looking pieces for my corporate wardrobe. Well, equally long ago I ended up buying these gorgeous high-waisted trousers from Forever21 and Ive been loving them as the weather gets cooler. Wide-legged trousers are one of my favorite things right now.

Outfit details:
Top, trousers, wrist cuff: Forever21
Blazer, Shoes: Thrifted
Bracelets and watch: Various

I think I like the idea of this blouse more than the reality because my waist really gets lost in all that fluff. It looks better with a fitted jacket, and I might look into getting a vest/waistcoat to wear it with.

This boxy jacket though is kind of cute in a comfy grandma way, although it being short sleeved means I have to pull out the magical tattoo-covering, dresscode-appeasing wristcuff.

What have you all been up to lately? Has autumn been treating you well (or spring, in the southern hemisphere)?

OOTD Turning 22
OOTD Turning 22
Today, because of the cruel and unrelenting passage of time that wont stop despite how many reruns of early 2000s cartoons I watch or how many juice boxes I drink, I turn 22. Woah.

Todays look:
Dress, belt, shrug, sunglasses - Torrid
Heels - Thrifted
Wrist cuff - Forever21
Pearls - Family

I love these sunglasses, I feel like they suit my face more than sunglasses Ive had in the past.

Im trying out the cuff bracelet as a way of covering my tattoo for special occasions at work, but my mother says it looks like I put half a tin can on my arm, so who knows.
